his mother Georgie, ca. 1888

The son of Rudolf and Georgine Emilia Brenda Schrödinger is born on April 12, 1887 in Vienna’s 3rd district, Erdberg. Both sides of the family share a keen interest in the natural sciences. Erwin’s father, owner of an oil cloth factory, is particularly interested in botany, which he pursues scientifically later in his life.

The maternal grandfather is a professor of chemical technology at the Imperial Royal Technical University of Vienna (k.k.
